We’ve taken a chance on so many jarred salsas. For long minutes, we’ll stand in front of a staggering wall of options at the grocery store, waiting for an intuitive pull towards the best jar of salsa. We’ve been influenced by well-known brand names, tales of “grandma’s recipe,” and overzealous descriptions, like “warm, yet well-grounded with deep earth tones.” Yet most often, we are left disappointed. You might be thinking that you’ve tried them all, and you’re sticking to the salsa you like. How can Trader Joe’s Pepita Salsa be that much better? There is no other salsa out there like it. It’s a chunky salsa—thanks to the roasted pumpkin seeds—that will cling onto any tortilla chip. It's neither watery nor bland. The pepitas are nutty, which balance out the acidity from tomatoes and the zesty lime flavor. The best part is the subtle spice—the perfect amount of sweet heat derived from bell peppers and chipotle powder. (From a scale of zero to 10, zero being not spicy at all, it’s a four.)
