"Pizza!" That's what all three of my kids claim to be the yummiest meal they ate in 2022. Here's the thing: we ate pizza last night, leftovers from a birthday party and it came from Dominoes. And just like that—poof!—my chef ego went up in flames. (I trained under a James Beard Award-winning chef in a Michelin-starred restaurant, but they clearly don't care.)
Despite my kids having the shortest memory and questionable tastes, I get it. The happiness we derive from eating certain foods cannot always be explained. Simply Recipes publishes hundreds of delicious recipes each year—all of them worthy of 5 stars in our eyes—and yet there are certain recipes that nudge our hearts and we make over and over again.
Here are the 10 recipes that Simply Recipes editors and contributors picked as their favorites in 2022.
— Myo Quinn, Senior Editor
Mercimek Çorbası (Turkish Lentil Soup)
"This soup is plain delicious, but what really stands out to me is the pul biber butter. Now I bloom spices in butter and drizzle them over everything (toast, eggs, veggies, etc!)." — Laurel Randolph, Editor
Vegetarian Meatloaf
"I've made this recipe four times since I tested it. It's soft, moist, and there's just a lot of umami flavors in it. I like using mushrooms and complementing it with plant-based meat. Even though it takes some time to prepare, it makes enough for six, with leftovers. My toddler loves it too!" — Apple Mandy, Recipe Tester
Kai Jeow (Thai Omelet)
"Kai Jeow is the fastest way to get those crave-worthy Thai flavors—salty, sweet, spicy, and umami—at home with little fuss. Even my fussy daughter loves it. Make sure your pan gets nice and hot before you add the egg so the omelet puffs up and sizzles. It's so satisfying." — Sara Bir, Senior Editor
Rasta Pasta with Jerk Chicken
"LOVED this recipe! Remember to give the chicken enough time to marinate. I couldn’t find a good jerk seasoning at my local store, so next time I’m going to be making my own ahead of time, pulling from this recipe—I expect it will take it to the next level!" — Andy Christensen, Art Director
Vegan Butternut Squash Soup
"One of our editors—Laurel Randolph—alerted me to this soup just as it started dipping below 60 degrees in Los Angeles. It's the ideal winter recipe, with a shocking amount of flavor considering the unassuming ingredients (the secret is that you roast the squash in the oven beforehand)." — Ariel Knutson, Editorial Director
Arepas con Queso
"This recipe was a major win for this auntie! It was super easy (dare I say foolproof?!), and made everyone involved feel a little bit of "Encanto" magic. There were also a lot of fun ways for kiddos to get involved, from shredding the cheese to shaping the arepas. Win, win, win!" — Emma Christensen, Associate General Manager
Potato Dinner Rolls
"Making these rolls is super satisfying and I love how the they stay soft, fluffy, and moist all day long. Don't forget the honey butter topping; it will bring a lustrous shine that makes these rolls so beautiful and photogenic." — Frank Tiu, Contributor
Instant Pot Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup
"I love Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup, but it usually takes a while to make. This recipe, on the other hand, only takes 90 minutes with just an Instant Pot – now it's is a weekly favorite!" — Munni Pramanik, Contributor
Creamy One Pot Pasta with Zucchini
"Thank goodness zucchini are available all year round! I've made this recipe enough times that I can make it without the recipe. Every time I made it a little differently—without cream cheese, with extra lemon, with peanuts instead of walnuts— and every time it's as delicious as the first." — Myo
Basque Cheesecake
"Basque cheesecake always felt like the Everest of desserts even if it's seriously the easiest. This one is so creamy and delicious! Make sure the cream cheese is at room temperature. Any colder, you won't get a smooth cheesecake." — Myo
